2009 White Conception

Concentrated and complex aromatics of nectarine, honeysuckle, poached pears, almond, orange zest, brioche and Chinese five-spice. Very good richness on the palate, solid acid backbone, and long spicy finish.

2009 White Conception

Let us introduce you to the 2009 White Conception, our first white blend! Each component was vinified separately in both stainless steel and barrel and then blended to showcase their aromatic intensity, balance and richness. The name was inspired by our Jack Rabbit Flats Vineyard, once a very popular “parking” spot among locals. As it turns out, more than just great wine was conceived in our vineyards…

Winemaking Notes

Inspired by the idea that there can be great synergy between the aromatics and energy of our aromatic whites coupled with the richness and complexity of our barrel-fermented wines. Each single-vineyard lot varietal that comprised the final blend was vinified separately, then selected in the desired proportion using a series of blind tastings. A portion of the Pinot Gris and Chardonnay were fermented in a combination of new and older French oak, and all wines were kept with their lees right up until bottling.

Reviews & Accolades

An aromatic blend of 5 grapes including Pinot Gris, Chardonnay Musqué and Gewürztraminer, this delivers a perfumed nose of exotic spice, incense, and floral notes. It’s fresh, lively and fruit driven on the palate with a persistent stream of racy flavour including key lime, white grapefruit and spice-infused yellow plum. It’s light-medium weight and nicely balanced finishing lengthy crisp and refreshing. A perfect aperitif, it sets the gustatory juices flowing. Order for daily home or office delivery from Fielding. - Vic Harradine, www.winecurrent.com

4 Stars. "…Roberts’ goal was to create a wine with more complexity on the nose and more richness on the palate than one would find from sampling the individual components of Pinot Gris, Chardonnay Musqué, Gewürztraminer, Riesling and barrel fermented Chardonnay. He succeeded. As a result, Fielding’s White Conception is dry and delectable, rich and refreshing. We heartily recommend it.” – Christopher Waters, Vines Magazine
